    Einstein’s “breakthrough” took 30 years.

We just remember it as one.

At age 10, Einstein read a children’s science book and wondered: If you traveled at the speed of light, what would it look like?

At 13, he read Kant’s Critique of Pure Reason.
(Go ahead, try making it past page three. I promise: you can’t.)

    At 15, he mastered calculus.

At 16, he got published in a scientific journal.

His famous 1905 theory of relativity? That was another decade of work.

Einstein started at 10 and “made it” by 40. That’s a span of 30 years—essentially a full life expectancy for the average person born in Germany in 1879.

But we remember Einstein’s breakthrough as:

“Patent clerk has genius moment. Changes physics forever.”

    That’s the story. It’s bullsh*t.

Our brains compress experience into simple cause/effect narratives.

Man is normal → X happens → Man is exceptional.

But it doesn’t work that way.

Memory is organized by meaning first, facts second. We take decades of gradual change and compress them into a single dramatic moment because that’s easier for our brains to remember.

But it screws with your sense of progress.

Because if you’re always hunting the next big epiphany to “fix” yourself, you’re implying that there’s something fundamentally wrong with you now.

The desire for the one single breakthrough that rewrites your identity is a subtle sneak attack on your own self-worth.

Nobody changes completely—or all at once.

Life is a series of micro-breakthroughs. Some you’ll notice, but most you won’t.

If you’re obsessed with the big life-changing moment, you’re missing the small ones already happening.

And those are often the ones that matter the most.

Purpose is an AI coach I built that learns your habits, patterns, and blindspots, then gives you one small step a day (through multi-day Quests) on anything from setting better boundaries to quitting doom-scrolling.

Those steps add up until one morning you notice you’re handling things differently and wonder when that happened. One user emailed us after 90 days: “Has it really been only three months? I’m a different person now.”
