Researcher/Content Assistant

Who We Are

We are an international team in the online media/content business. We specialize in personal development/self-help content. The team is a hybrid team based out of the Los Angeles area and spread throughout the world in half a dozen countries. Our content is seen by tens of millions of people each month.

We are a highly driven hard-working group with a sense of humor. We prioritize integrity and intellectual rigor—two things that are scarce (and much needed) in the self-help industry.

Our goal is to create some of the highest quality content in the world around mental health and personal growth. If you want to get involved early in a fast-growing creator economy business with a proven track record and high ambitions, then we’d love for you to join us.

What We Need

Our business publishes hundreds of pieces of content each month—from short tweets to thirty-minute documentary-style investigative videos to 90-minute podcasts. To keep up with both the quality and quantity we need someone who is smart, creative, driven, and resourceful to help us.

Role Responsibilities

  • Research—find studies about specific topics and be able to summarize academic papers succinctly and accurately.
  • Summarize information—you should be an avid reader who can rip through a standard nonfiction book within a few days and summarize it well to the team.
  • Find interesting news stories, surveys, data, or relevant topics to use on the podcast, website, or YouTube channel.
  • Source stock video assets for video content and stock photography for written content.
  • Produce accurate and easy-to-understand charts, graphs, and spreadsheets when necessary.
  • Help proof, edit, or suggest changes to content in production.
  • Work directly with Mark and/or his producers to provide whatever information, data, or assets a piece of content needs.

Who I’m Looking For

This is an entry-level position, so the ideal candidate is someone who is at the beginning of their professional career, talented, and excited to learn and grow in a successful online content business.

You Must Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • A passion for psychology, personal growth, and mental health
  • Experience and comfort reading academic papers and knowing which ones are well-designed studies and which ones are kinda bullshit
  • Experience working with ChatGPT or other AI software to assist in research, data retrieval, brainstorming ideas, etc.
  • Excellent skills working with charts, graphs, and spreadsheets
  • Very strong writing/editing skills
  • An attention to detail, obnoxiously high standards
  • Good taste in selecting images, videos, and other assets
  • A sense of humor
  • Comfort with Google Drive, Notion, and Slack

Strongest Candidates Will:

  • Have a degree in psychology or an adjacent field of study
  • Have a graduate degree and/or actual research experience in an academic setting
  • Have work experience in a creative field (design, writing, television production, etc.)
  • Be based in the Los Angeles area

Application Process

The application process will occur in three rounds:

  1. Initial submission – You will submit your application this week (see below for what to submit). The top 10-20 candidates will get an email response on September 11th being invited to Phase Two. If you do not hear from us by September 12th, then you did not make the cut.
  2. Trial Work – On September 13th, we will send out a few sample work assignments that are reflective of what you would have to do on the job. You will have 72 hours to complete them. The 3-5 candidates with the best work will proceed to round three. All Phase Two candidates will hear back from us on September 17th.
  3. Interview(s) – Online interviews will begin immediately after September 17th and will continue until an offer is made.
