How to Survive a Long Distance Relationship

Long distance relationships are the worst. "Is he/she worth waiting for? Are they feeling the same way I do?" "Am I kidding myself thinking this can work?" "Would I be better off dating the mailman instead? At least he comes to my house every day." "Does my girlfriend even exist or is this just a Nigerian guy conducting an elaborate credit card scam?"

I get it. I’ve been there. Long distance relationships suck. There’s no way around it. In all of my years I’ve never met someone who has said, "Yeah, my boyfriend lives in Finland, it’s great!" On the contrary, everyone I’ve met in a long distance relationship can relate to the slow agonizing feeling that takes place over months or even years — that feeling that your heart is slowly being carved out by a butter knife and replaced with Skype calls and open chat windows.

All three of my significant relationships have involved long distance in some way. As a young man who was terrified of any sort of commitment whatsoever, I found that I could only allow myself to fall for a girl if she was at least 500 miles away. The first one, …

Hey, sorry to interrupt…

I know you were reading that and getting all into it, but I’ve got to stop you here for a second. Because you seem to have somehow stumbled onto a subscriber-only article, and I hate to say it, but this shit ain't free.

See, I write a bunch of big long sexy articles for everybody, those are probably some of the articles that you know and love. They are big and beautiful and long and full of funny cat GIFs. But sometimes when I want to diverge into a niche topic or dive deep on a specific problem my readers are having, I write something exclusively for my subscribers. Like this one.

You can read this extra content yourself too. You just have to subscribe. It's easy and takes 30 seconds and you get access to all sorts of cool stuff like:

  • Access to every single article on the site, including this one!
  • Access to my audio commentaries where I discuss the research, ideas, and criticisms of each article.
  • Videos where I dive into deeper topics and discuss them at length and answer your specific questions.
  • The audio archive where you can stream all article audios and commentaries in one place. Each audio also has a download link, so you can listen anywhere, however you like.
  • A few of the best videos from my courses, about relationships, connection and overcoming anxiety.
  • Sneak previews at my upcoming books, articles or whatever else I'm working on.
  • Occasional meet-ups with supporters in major cities where you can meet other cool people who love the site.

Subscribing costs less than a cup of coffee in some places. And it’s what allows me to feed myself in between writing amazing shit for you. So please, feed me.
